Say "So Long" to Server Room Cooling -- Move to the Cloud

Posted by: Tina Behnke on Oct 18, 2011

Tired of trying to keep up with the demands or your server room cooling?  Don't want to rely on the building folks to keep the aging data center air conditioner in tip-top shape?  This might be the time to explore taking your computing to the cloud!

Seems like a winning equation.  Let's see -- fewer IT folks, less spending on hardware purchases and environmental support like UPSes and supplemental server room cooling.  Looks like a great alternative for small and meduim businesses.

So what's holding many back?  The unknown.  Uncertainly.  Most folks would rather deal with the "devil they know" than the "devil they don't know" -- you can thank my mom for that quote!

Moving much of your computing to the cloud will alleviate much of you cooling load and shift it to an environment where data center managers can leverage economies of scale and get more computing from the data center cooling.  It just makes sense.  Better use of resources. You can be certain the Cloud Data Center Managers will monitor the data center cooling environment to utilize the most economical cooling system.  And you won't have to worry about the air conditioning emergencies when spot cooler rentals are needed -- that always seems to be needed at the worst times!

We hope to move much of our CRM and other applications to cloud-based applications.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Till then... let's look to the cloud for inspiration!
